China strongly opposes any words or deeds undermining China-Myanmar ties: embassy

Chinese Embassy in Myanmar strongly opposes any words or deeds undermining China-Myanmar ties

China strongly opposes any words or deeds undermining China-Myanmar friendly ties, the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar said in a statement released on its website on Tuesday

The statement came after Myanmar's State Administration Council (SAC) said in a statement on Monday that it had detained four Chinese nationals for allegedly providing weapons training to the People's Defence Force (PDF), an armed group opposed to the SAC.

The Chinese Embassy in Myanmar said that it had lodged a strong protest with the SAC and urged it to release the detained Chinese nationals immediately.

The embassy also said that China and Myanmar are friendly neighbours and that the two countries have a long history of friendly exchanges and cooperation.

The embassy said that it hopes the SAC will properly handle the matter and avoid taking any actions that could undermine the friendly relations between China and Myanmar.

The SAC has been accused of human rights abuses and violations of international law since it seized power in a military coup in February 2021.

The PDF is one of several armed groups that have emerged in Myanmar to oppose the SAC.

China calls on Myanmar to investigate alleged Chinese weapons training to rebels

The Chinese Foreign Ministry on Tuesday expressed grave concern over the detention of the Chinese nationals and urged Myanmar to investigate the matter thoroughly and fairly.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said at a regular press briefing that China has asked Myanmar to release the detained Chinese nationals as soon as possible.

Wang said that China hopes Myanmar will create a favourable environment for the development of bilateral relations.

Myanmar denies providing weapons training to Chinese rebels

The SAC has denied providing weapons training to Chinese rebels.

SAC spokesperson Zaw Min Tun said in a statement on Monday that the group had detained the Chinese nationals for allegedly providing weapons training to the PDF.

However, Zaw Min Tun said that the SAC had not provided any weapons training to Chinese rebels.

China-Myanmar relations

China and Myanmar have a long history of friendly relations dating back centuries.

The two countries share a border of over 2,000 kilometers and have close economic and cultural ties.

However, the relationship between the two countries has been strained in recent years by the SAC's crackdown on dissent and its alleged support for ethnic armed groups.

Conclusion

The detention of the Chinese nationals by the SAC is a reminder of the complex and fragile nature of China-Myanmar relations.

It is important for both countries to work together to resolve their differences and build a more stable and prosperous future for their peoples.
